Mick the Skipper

Mick Fagan is well-known in much of the sailing world. He has run flotillas in Turkey, taught cruising classes in the Caribbean, and sailed oceans for fun and profit.

He was in Tortola, BVI, when Irma came a-calling and has a pretty harrowing tale to tell. It turned out well in the end, though there are some lingering effects.

He’s in Greece now, and having a challenging time as he adjusts to the new realities amidst the Pandemic.

Deb grew up in a sailing family in New Zealand. Her father designed and built yachts and the whole family shared the excitement. She ran away to sea when the time was right and made a name for herself in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean as an excellent sailor, a terrific chef, and great company. She ran a tight ship. Now she’s back in New Zealand, helping run a marina and teaching the grandkids how to splice a mainbrace and bake a Pavlova while keeping an eye on the guests and planning the next two charters in her head. Jan 23, 2020. South African Manie Steyn got his first taste of ocean sailing on a delivery voyage from Cape Town to the British Virgin islands. He was young and green. When about to leave the BVI to return home at the end of the delivery, his skipper told him that the ticket had been cancelled. That he should stay a while in the Caribbean and learn the business.
